Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah
namastasyai namastasyai namastasyai namo namaḥ
salutations to her, salutations to her, salutations to her, again and again.
Siddhidatri — “giver of perfection” — is the ninth and final form of Durga, worshipped on Navami, the last day of Navaratri. She grants the siddhis: spiritual powers and, above all, the perfection of knowing the Divine.
She sits on a lotus, four-armed, holding a discus, conch, mace and lotus, worshipped by gods, demons, sages and celestial beings alike — every kind of being seeks what she gives.
With her the nine-night journey that began at the mountain with Shailaputri reaches its summit.
The Devi Purana tells that Shiva himself worshipped Siddhidatri and received all the siddhis from her. Through her grace half of his body became the Goddess — the form known as Ardhanarishvara.
So the final form of Navaratri is the Goddess as the source of all power, even Shiva’s.
