        About Lakshmi Gayatri Mantra

The Lakshmi Gayatri applies the three-step Vedic Gayatri pattern — know, meditate, be inspired — to Mahalakshmi, the goddess of abundance, beauty and good fortune.

It names her as Mahālakṣmī, the great Lakshmi, and Viṣṇupatnī, the wife of Vishnu, the preserver of the universe. Lakshmi is the energy that keeps life flourishing, and Vishnu the order that sustains it: together they hold the world in balance.

The mantra is traditionally chanted at the close of the Shree Suktam and on its own as a daily practice, especially on Fridays and during Diwali.

        The Stories Inside the Hymn

        Lakshmi and Vishnu

Whenever Vishnu descends to earth, Lakshmi comes with him: as Sita with Rama, as Rukmini with Krishna. She is never separate from him.

In art she is often shown resting at Vishnu’s feet as he reclines on the cosmic serpent Shesha, floating on the ocean of milk — prosperity and preservation side by side.

        Wealth with grace

Lakshmi’s blessings are traditionally counted as eight kinds of wealth (Ashta Lakshmi): money, grain, courage, children, success, knowledge, patience and spiritual liberation.

Her Gayatri asks first to know and meditate on her — receiving abundance with awareness and gratitude.
